At TOFI, gender equality is not treated as a peripheral concern—it is a fundamental principle that guides every aspect of our work. We adopt a gender-transformative approach, which means we go beyond simply acknowledging gender disparities. Instead, we actively seek to challenge and change the underlying norms, attitudes, and power imbalances that sustain inequality.

Why Gender Equality Matters

Gender inequality remains the most pervasive form of inequality worldwide. It is a major obstacle to achieving sustainable development and eradicating poverty. At TOFI, we view the promotion of gender equality as a powerful strategy to reduce disparities and enable individuals—particularly those living in extreme poverty—to improve their quality of life and realize their full potential. Women and girls around the world continue to face profound challenges. Many lack access to, or control over, essential resources and services. They are disproportionately affected by gender-based violence (GBV), encounter significant barriers to education and healthcare, and often have limited influence in decision-making—both within their households and in society at large.

• Women and girls attain higher literacy and numeracy rates
• Maternal and infant mortality rates are significantly reduced
• Women have equal opportunities in the workforce

• Legal frameworks fully support and enforce gender equality

Gender Integration Across Programs

Gender equality is a cross-cutting priority in all TOFI initiatives—whether in development or humanitarian contexts. We integrate gender considerations into programs focused on livelihoods, education, and health, ensuring that each intervention contributes to the empowerment of women and girls and fosters inclusive environments where all individuals can thrive. Through this integrated and transformative approach, Tofi is driving systemic change—working to dismantle the structural barriers that perpetuate inequality and advocating for a more just and equitable world for all.
