TOFI was founded 1993 in response to the famine and displacement in the breakaway government of Somalia. The widespread conflict that followed political conflicts caused the displacement of millions and a blockade of food, medicine and basic necessities by the militants and warring parties.
For over 15 years, we have actively engaged in the battle against poverty. In 1993, a group of individuals in Canada took the lead in organizing a substantial aid initiative in response to famine and conflict in Somalia. More than a decade and a half later, our efforts persist as we collaborate with the world’s most vulnerable populations, aiming to alleviate suffering and combat the scourges of poverty and hunger.
The conflicts that impact Somalia have deep historical roots and persist in molding the nation’s fate. Somalia’s civil war stands as one of the longest-running conflicts in Africa, spanning two decades. After enduring two decades of crisis, the entirety of the country remains in a state of instability and peril.
